Opening of DNW’s Automotive Test Section (ATS)

18 Nov 2024

Exclusive Invitation-Only Opening of DNW’s Automotive Test Section (ATS)

We are pleased to announce the official opening of the Automotive Test Section (ATS) at the German-Dutch Wind Tunnels (DNW) in Marknesse. This exclusive event, taking place on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, will celebrate the latest expansion in DNW’s cutting-edge facilities. Participation in this event is by invitation only.

DNW has a longstanding history of innovation as a pioneering example of successful European collaboration. Founded in 1976 by the German and Dutch governments, along with the German Aerospace Centre (DLR) and the Dutch Aerospace Centre (NLR), DNW has evolved into a leading organisation in aerodynamic and aeroacoustic testing. The DNW Large Low-Speed Facility (LLF), Europe’s largest wind tunnel, provides advanced testing capabilities for both aerospace and automotive sectors, allowing for full-scale measurements on cars, vans, and even trucks.

The newly completed ATS marks a significant milestone in DNW’s mission to support sustainable and innovative technologies. Built to meet the rigorous demands of the Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicles Test Procedure (WLTP), this unique facility leverages DNW’s expertise in aviation to advance testing standards in the automotive industry. With its large-scale infrastructure, the ATS is uniquely equipped to test vehicles under real-world conditions, promoting energy efficiency and reduced emissions in response to evolving environmental standards.

The ATS opening reflects a remarkable achievement in German-Dutch cross-sector collaboration, advancing the transport industry towards a more sustainable future and contributing to the climate objectives set by both governments.

The event will include an opening speech by NLR and DLR leaders. Keynotes will be given by representatives from government and industry after which there will be panel discussions on smart mobility & sustainability and future testing requirements in the automotive sector. Attendees will then witness the official opening of the ATS, streamed live to event screens and are invited to join guided tours of the facility, providing a closer look at the advanced capabilities and technology on display. The program will conclude with closing remarks, offering an inspiring overview of the ATS’s potential to drive sustainable growth in transportation.

We look forward to welcoming our invitees to this event in Marknesse on December 10, 2024. If you would like to receive an invitation to this event, please contact Sandra Witkamp at sandra.witkamp@dnw.aero
