World's First Test Facility for WLTP Testing of Larger Vehicles Now Open

Marknesse, Netherlands, 10 December 2024 – The German-Dutch Wind Tunnels - DNW is pleased to announce the opening of its state-of-the-art Automotive Test Section. This cutting-edge facility is the first of its kind in the world, enabling the accurate measurement of rolling and air resistance of larger vehicles in compliance with the European mandatory Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicle Test Procedure (WLTP).

Opening of DNW’s Automotive Test Section (ATS)

This exclusive event, taking place on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, will celebrate the latest expansion in DNW’s cutting-edge facilities. Participation in this event is by invitation only.

DNW powered by the sun

At Marknesse, NLR and HVC have developed a new, large solar park. The produced power is fed into the national grid using the DNW-LLF electrical infrastructure. On 08 July 2024, this largest solar park in the Netherlands was officially opened. This solar park is situated on the NLR/DNW terrain in Marknesse and has 74.000 solar panels with a capacity of 46MWp and is able to supply 43-milion kilowatt solar power.

Launch Ariane 6

DNW is proud to have been able to contribute to a successful and safe launch of the ESA’s Ariane 6 rocket. In 2017, a wind tunnel model designed and manufactured by NLR was tested in the DNW-HST and DNW-SST. The goal of these tests was to characterize the steady and unsteady loads on the total launcher and on the various launcher elements (e.g. boosters) during the transonic and supersonic flight phases.

Lilium Jet enters powered test campaign at DNW

Developer of the first all-electric vertical take-off and landing jet, today announced the start of wind tunnel testing on a complete 1 to 2.5 scale (40% size) Lilium Jet model, including working engines and flap actuators, at the German-Dutch Wind Tunnels (DNW) facility in Marknesse, Netherlands.
